Health Care

The world is aging. In fact, population aging is progressing rapidly in many industrialized countries. The increase in life expectancy is actually the result of social and economic development as well as improvements in public health. While population aging represents a human success story, this demographic trend also poses myriad challenges.

One of the issues that has to be addressed in connection with population aging is health care for older people. Seniors have to be given the proper health care. Medical, nursing and allied health professionals should be able to provide services that can help prevent, treat and manage diseases or disorders of the elderly.

To improve health care for the elderly, health care providers should have the proper education and training to assess and treat conditions that afflict older persons. Primary health care centers should also be able to adapt to the needs of older people. In addition, physical access to these health care centers should be made easier for older persons.

The risk of developing chronic diseases and disability is high for older people, so it is necessary to improve disease management within health care services as well as to open opportunities for health promotion and disease prevention in the community.
